The tempo was rather unusual: 15 minutes for 45 moves followed by 5 minutes for 25 moves. Presumably, this was repeated for each additional 25 moves. 48 players were selected to play in the main group. These were divided into 8 groups of 6 players. The winners, Coosemans, van Donk, Donner, Dunkelblum, Janssens, Mondria, Spanjaard, and van Woerden, were divided into two semifinals. Dunkelblum won his group before van Donk, Janssens, and van Woerden. In the final, he beat Donner.
