According to [3], Koltanowski replaced Keres, who had been invited but had to decline due to illness. He didn’t do too shabbily either, barely missing the podium. The young American Fine finished ahead of another youngster: Flohr. Van Seters was Dutch but lived in Belgium almost his whole life. In the premier reserves, he finished in the middle of the pack. Pepers played in a first-class tournament with a surprisingly high number of women. He scored a convincing 8 out of 9, took shared first place with Mrs. Holloway, and was the only one to beat her.

A picture from Utrechtsche Courant 06/01/1936 showing the Dutch participants in the Hastings congress. From left to right: Knoppers, Scheffer, Prins, Van Seters, and Landau. This picture was kindly pointed out to me by Mr. Philip Jurgens.
