For a long time, this tournament, organised by SK Boris Spassky Schilde, was the only recurring international tournament in Belgium. Until 1974, the tournament was played yearly. After that, it was only held every other year. The last tournament was held in 1982.

Meulders participated no less than four times, which makes him the record holder. He was the only player to win two medals and, together with Van Herck, he was the only Belgian to get a silver medal.
