Despite the war, a small master tournament was organised in Liège. Begam, who was a last-minute replacement for O’Kelly, was the revelation of the tournament. I believe he died in WWII, unfortunately.

The crosstable and two game are given in [2]. One extra game is given in [1], which also gives some results including the final standings. There were three tournaments of lesser importance held alongside this one, including a junior group, but it don’t know any of the results of those. Mr. Ulrich Tamm kindly provided another game which he found in Diemer’s column in Der Neue Tag. Unfortunately, I don’t know the exact date.

Wanted

  • All but four of the games.
  • The exact dates of the games.
  • Wéry’s first name.
