In the absence of Devos and O’Kelly (who was playing in Czechoslovakia), Dunkelblum managed to win what was to be his only Belgian championship. Van Schoor, who had won the candidates’ tournament the previous year, got a nice second place. In the candidates’ tournament a new formula was used, probably due to the high number of inscriptions. The top three finishers from both preliminary section qualified for the final. Both Ryckborst and Teetaert renounced their chance for a spot in the final, so only on play-off game was necessary. This was won by Gobert, who thereby qualified for the final.

The games I have were gathered from [1]-[4]. The crosstables are based on partial results and final standings from [1] and [2].

Wanted

  • Most of the games.
  • First names for Van Damme, Herrygers, Pieters, and Ryckborst.
