A good result for O’Kelly, but the great Belgian success came from the women’s group, which was won with an excellent 7½/9 by Bussers. In the junior group Van den Broeck did decently well, but Somers had a disappointing tournament. The games from the masters’ group are widely available (I took them from [2]), the corresponding crosstable comes from [1]. The table for the junior group was puzzled together from partial results given in the tournament bulletin. Finally, the Utrechts Nieuwsblad gives the final standings from the women’s group. I found a few games from the women’s section in [3].

This picture comes from Nieuw Utrechtsch Dagblad 07-01-1953 and was kindly pointed out to me by Mr. Philip Jurgens. O’Kelly is in the back, looking right at the camera, playing black against Trott. On the left the game Bouwmeester-van Scheltinga, in the front Torán Albero-Heidenfeld. On the right the game Euwe-Füster and behind them, barely visible, Donner-Cortlever. In the back, finally, Rossolimo-Kramer.

Wanted

  • The crosstables for the women’s group.
  • Almost all games from the women’s group and all games from the junior group.
  • First names for van Son, Kersten, Hameka, and Heim.
