I’m grateful to Mr. Philip Jurgens and his correspondent, Mr. Alan McGowan, who collected quite a lot of information about this match from local German papers. The games come from [1], the dates from [2], and the organisational information from [3]. the venue was hotel Nizza in Wiesbaden. It was originally planned to be a ten-game match, but it was shortened because Niephaus was invited to an international tournament in Augsburg. I’m not sure why Niephaus had white in both the fourth and the fifth game.
