The board is order is very uncertain. [1] gives the boards ordered by result and then by name of the local player. The above order gives the local players white on odd-numbered boards and puts the five players designated as “first class” in [1] on the first five boards. This seems vaguely plausible, but it’s far from certain. Note that Middleton was a member of both clubs.
I’m thankful to Mr. Philip Jurgens for providing several first names. He also gives some more details about the Englishmen’s travel, citing [2]:
The Hastings & St. Leonard’s chess club members travelling from Dover landed at Ostend at 2 am on Wednesday, July 26, and arrived in Brussels by train at 5:25 am. The Englishmen spent the day enjoying the attractions of Brussels, including a visit to the Field of Waterloo. The chess match in Brussels was held on Wednesday evening and lasted almost 4 hours. On Thursday morning, the British team travelled on to Antwerp, where Belgian King Leopold II was visiting. On the evening of July 27, the Englishmen continued their tour in the Netherlands, where Middleton would join them.
