This was the first of four Chess without borders stages. The format was that four teams of sixteen players each met each other for three games in a day. The Belgian team was a combination of the Meetjeslandse chess federation and the Bruges chess federation. The players of the former scored as follows: Barzeele 1/3, Rogiers 3/3, D. Verschilde 2/3, M. Verschilde 0/3, Slabbinck 3/3, Claeys 0/3, Clevers 1/3 & Pintelon 1/3. Note that, officially, a 3-2-1 scoring system was used instead of the usual 1-½-0.
