The Maccabiah games are a counterpart of the Olympic games for people of Jewish descent. In this tenth edition, chess was included as one of the sports and a Belgian team with four quite young players from Brussels took part. Their individual scores, which come from [2], were as below. An individual junior tournament was held alongside the team tournament, but no Belgian played there. The games took place in the Bnei Brith hotel. There were some strong players, like Speelman and Mestel, who played for England, and grandmaster Bolbochán, who represented Venezuela.
