Liège Quadrangular, Liège

1930

1 2 3 4 Tot
1 Soultanbeieff, Victor Ivanovich RUS 1 ½ 1
2 Pleci, Isaías ARG 0 1 1 2
3 Liubarski, Eugène RUS ½ 0 1
4 Mendlewicz POL 0 0 0 0

I don’t know whether or not Liubarski and Mendlewicz were really Belgian in some form. Pleci had played in the tournament of the  International Exposition and for the longest time I was assuming that this small tournament was organised shortly before or shortly after it. However, the reporting in the Belgian press suggests that it took place considerably later (cfr. [2]). Soultanbeieff won the decisive game against Pleci which, like the crosstable, comes from [1]. One more game comes from [2].

Wanted

  • Mendlewicz’ first name.
  • Almost all games.
