This is one of the greatest performances ever by any Belgian, standing with O’Kelly’s successes in the Costa del Sol tournaments or Koltanowski’s Spanish victories from the thirties. Along the way to his victory, Gurevich managed to defeat young Russian star Grischuk as well as a bunch of experienced grandmaster and hold a draw with black against the great Svidler. He could have won outright, had he not lost on time against Hansen, in a position he might have been able to hold. I took the crosstable from [1] and the games from [2]. They seem to correspond with the official site [3].
